General Information

McBride Lake Campground is located in the boreal forest in Central Saskatchewan. To get here you drive through forested roads into the valley of the Porcupine Hills. The remote lake is surrounded by forest, and the campground is located right along the lake, steps away from the water. The lake is great for fishing, paddling and water sports. It is a long and narrow lake which means it is mostly calm with a secluded small beach only accessible by water. There is also very little light pollution, making this a great location for stargazing or seeing the Northern Lights in Saskatchewan.

Supplies Available

Thanks for supporting our small business! We currently operate out of the office/living quarters located to the right once you enter the campground – watch for signs for Office. Getting Here

Not to get confusing, but there are two McBride Lake’s in Saskatchewan. Fishing

McBride Lake is known for good fishing. Walleye, Perch and Northern Pike are often caught. Check out the profile recently completed by Sask Lakes. A Saskatchewan Fishing license is required. The campground provides a boat launch and filleting shack to use. Filleting shack is cleaned daily at dark, please respect the time needed to clean and properly disinfect everything and plan to be finished using it by then.

Paddling

McBride Lake is a long and narrow lake that is ideal for paddling. With many calm days on the water you can enjoy paddling around the entire lake. For adventurous paddlers, you can enter at Eldridge Lake just west of McBride and paddle the creek to McBride Lake and eventually the campground. This is a great day trip from the camground.

Astronomy, Astrophotography & Northern Lights

Camp in one of the best areas in Saskatchewan to see the summer northern lights or a truly dark sky. Look up to a blanket of stars and northern lights, with limited light pollution near the campground, the sky is truly dark. You can watch the northern lights dance or see the Milky Way rise over the lake with the naked eye. Best times for viewing are August and September during the two weeks near new moon. But stargazing and watching for the northern lights is a great way to pass the time any night of the summer, there is just enough darkness even during the shortest nights of the year to be able to enjoy the night sky and be far enough north for northern lights!

Additional Things to Consider

Due to our remote location tucked in the Porcupine Hills Provincial Forest, cell service is very limited. Be aware that you will loose cell service after turning off the main highways. Best location for service at the campground is near the boat launch or on top of the hill on the main road #983 just west of the McBride Lake turn off.

Being located in a remote and beautiful area of the wilderness does mean there can be lots of bugs. Depending on the time of year and current conditions the bugs can be bad and must be planned for. There are limited reports of ticks in the area. Late June and early July is the worst for mosquitoes, but tend to thin out throughout the summer. Flies pick up in August and can be bad during the daytime heat. Be prepared and don’t let the bugs ruin your enjoyment!

Porcupine Hills Provincial Park
